THE FLOOR OF THE SKY

THE FLOOR OF THE SKY

“Elsewhere the sky is the roof of the world; but here the earth was the floor of the sky.”

Willa Cather, Death Comes for the Archbishop

In her quintessential book about New Mexico, Willa Cather tells us that New Mexicans look at their world from a different perspective. This collection of pinhole photographs shows us that New Mexico. A pinhole camera yields images that are soft and romantic; they invite us to imagine a world that has a deeper meaning than we see on the surface. These pinhole images have been further edited to reflect a Pictorialist style, a vintage and painterly appearance to emphasize the beauty of the landscape.
