THE BOSQUE

A bosque is a riverside forest. In Albuquerque the Rio Grande traverses the city and the bosque runs alongside it. The forest is a significant place for animals, birds, insects and other creatures. More than 500 species occupy New Mexico's forests. Cottonwood trees have been growing at the riverside for a million years. They rely upon the river to provide moisture needed to nourish the trees and germinate their seeds.
